What not to call your baby!

Choosing your baby's name is one of the hardest things you are going to do.

According to a survey by Gigacalculator, 30% of parents surveyed said that they hadn't given enough thought to to their baby's name and a staggering 73% interviewed changed their minds after they had decided on one.

So here are a few suggestions to help you avoid making a mistake:

*Consider whether your baby might grow out of their name

*Try not to pick a name that other kids will laugh at them for.(In an ideal world this should never happen but unfortunately kids can be cruel).

* Don't choose a name that celebrities have used. Everyone will think you have copied them!

* Think carefully about choosing a name from a TV programme or film. Anyone born in the 1980s called Jason or Kylie, we can all guess which show their parents watched, More recently names from Game of Thrones, Twilight, Guardians of the Galaxy have all been inspiration for baby names.

* If you are considering a middle name, will it work well with the first name? A Mum was recently in the press for calling her daughter, Elizabeth.  A lovely, traditional name. She decided to call her by the shortened version, Liz. Unfortunately she hadn't thought of the implication as the baby's middle name was Anya. Put it together and you get lasagne!

So what were the names that parents regretted? Hunter, Jaxon and Carter were the most regretted boys names in the survey and Aurora, Arabella, and Lyla were the top 3 girls names that parents were remorseful of.

So what names should you pick if you want your child to be the most intelligent? Yes, seriously, research has been conducted on the link between baby names and academic ability but I'll save that for another blog!

Whatever name you decide on, CalEli Gifts can personalise a gift with their name on it for a unique keepsake.
